Tax Justice and Gender Equality

This fact sheet was a collaborative piece drafted by a working group before and during the Civil Society Forum in Geneva on October 29, 2020 in preparation for the UNECE regional meeting, as a part of the Beijing+25 review process. CRIAW-ICREF, along with other women’s organizations and members of civil society, show how we need tax justice for women’s equality.
Tax Justice and Gender Equality touch on the multitude of tax policies perpetuating gender discrimination, whether directly or indirectly, and their effect on women and girls. From a tax system based on the ‘ability to pay’, allowing only those with greater wealth to benefit, to indirect taxes that make it difficult for women performing unpaid care work to be able to financially keep up, this factsheet highlights all of the key elements that need to be addressed.
