Memories and Visions: Celebrating 20 Years of Feminist Research with CRIAW/ ICREF 1976-1992
The 1970s was a decade of great beginnings for women in Canada. This publication commemorates the 20th anniversary of one of the most important national women''s organizations founded in that period: the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW). CRIAW''s mandate was to promote, disseminate and initiate research on women''s experience - research which was woefully inadequate up to this time. As Roxana Ng comments about her experience in those days: it was either go insane or become a feminist. She decided to become a feminist. Memories and Visions recalls the formative days when women (and a few men) met in cities like Ottawa and Halifax to consider what type of organization could best achieve this goal. Former presidents recall these early days and the forces which influenced their feminism. However, this volume is not just about history. CRIAW asked researchers from across the country, academic and community-based, francophone and anglophone, from diverse backgrounds, to write about their research experiences and what future they envisioned for feminist research. These articles give much to ponder as CRIAW heads into its third decade.
