Winners of the 2016 Barbara Roberts Memorial Fund!

June 28, 2016

We're pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Barbara Roberts Memorial Fund!

The Vancouver Women’s Caucus History Project, submitted by Pat Davitt, Anne Roberts, Jean Rands, Liz Briemberg, and Elizabeth Godley, is the winner of the 2016 Barbara Roberts Memorial Fund. This project aims to preserve and make public the primary records of one of the earliest women’s liberation groups in Canada, an objective that speaks directly to the social justice issues and social movements that Barbara Roberts focused on in her work as both an activist and an academic. Among its other activities, the Vancouver Women’s Caucus initiated the abortion caravan, shut down Parliament for the first time in Canadian history, and hosted a peace conference with Indo-Chinese women. In collecting and preserving the history of this group—by inviting fifty former members to participate in this process—this project will contribute to the history of second-wave feminism in Vancouver, British Columbia, and in Canada more generally through the creation of a website. The preservation of such records will not only lead to a greater understanding of second-wave feminism, but also provide historical perspective about issues women face today.

Congratulations!
